Skydio releases iOS firmware update for the Skydio 2 drone – Version 6.0.38
After a short wait, the Apple app store is a lot more strict and thus slower to approve new apps, it is finally here. A new iOS Firmware Update (version 6.0.38) for the self-flying Skydio 2 drone. The firmware update promises a few bug fixes under the hood and improvements to the overall flight performance. I have just updated my Skydio 2 just now and will fly it later today to see if I can see a difference in how the drone behaves. If you have already flown yours with the new firmware, let us know what you think in the comments below.
Updating your Skydio 2 drone is a pretty straight forward process than can be completed in about 10 minutes or so. Connect your drone to a power source or make sure that the batteries have enough juice left. The same applies to your iPhone in this case. Connect to the Skydio 2 WiFi and start the firmware update process. Make sure not to leave the app or turn off the drone during the update.
The Skydio 2 firmware update
As to what this firmware update offers your Skydio 2, the company said the following:
The Skydio Autonomy Engine is at the heart of what makes Skydio 2 the world’s most intelligent self-flying drone, capable of next-generation obstacle avoidance. This update fixes a few bugs under the hood and improves overall flight performance.
It seems that this firmware update does not provide us with any new features. Although I do suspect that Skydio has found a way to prevent the drone from taking a dive as it did in the video below.
In case you were wondering, Billy’s drone has been replaced by Skydio as part of their warranty program. He received a brand new Skydio 2 drone in a matter of days. Kudos to Skydio.
Anyway, back to the firmware update. Have you updated your Skydio 2 yet with the new firmware update? Let us know what you think and if you have found anything new or notable in how the drone operates with the new firmware.
