Mysterious DJI drone photo shared on Twitter. Possible DJI FPV drone?

Let’s start by taking a closer look at what we can see in this scrambled photo of this mysterious DJI drone.

  • The drone has a familiar grey color which seems to be matching the color of the DJI Mavic Mini.
  • There clearly is a DJI logo visible on what seems to the top of the drone.
  • The props on the back legs seem to be mounted facing down.
  • The drone seems to be relatively small. Roughly the size of the Mavic Air 2. Too small to be a Mavic 3 in my opinion.
  • The camera/gimbal part is very different. Might be this? See the patent drawing below. Not sure.
  • The black grooved part on top of the drone could be a heat sink or part of a new antenna?
  • As of 2020, all DJI drones heavier than 250 gram would have … Might be incorporated in that black section?
  • It seems that the legs would be foldable.
  • The drone appears muddied in the photo, which could indicate that this a more high-performance FPV-style drone?

  1. It certainly looks like an FPV drone. Hopefully they integrate the air unit antennas in a way to protect them from crash damage and disconnection (but also maintain good range).

  2. This is a Mavic Air with broken top cover and modified propellers. The black thing on top is the heatsink of CPU.
