Drone footage shows the disaster that is taking place in Mauritius as the Japanse oil tanker, which ran aground on July 25th has started leaking oil into the pristine waters. An environmental emergency has been declared by the prime minister, Pravind Jugnauth and the country has asked the international community for help.

The Japanese-owned oil tanker that was sailing under the Panama flag was on its way to Brazil from Chines when it hit the coral reefs near Pointe d’Esny on July 25th.

According to The Guardian, more than 1,000 tonnes of fuel have seeped into the ocean; a further 2,500 tonnes remain on board and are starting to ooze from a crack in the hull.

Crews have been able to stem the leak in the hull from now, but are bracing for the worst as the cracks have grown and the risk of the ship breaking in two still exists.

In the video below, you see a helicopter flying toward and underneath the drone, creating another dangerous situation.
