DJI Air 2S: extreme wind test with DC Rainmaker

DC Rainmaker tests the new DJI Air 2S drone in some very strong winds in The Netherlands. This latest DJI drone is rated for a maximum wind speed of 23 mph but when you flick the drone into sport mode it can do quite a bit better than that.

DC Rainmaker shows that the wind speeds reach around 31 mph and as much as 40 mph in gusts. These speeds are measured at ground level and are typically higher at the altitude at which the drone will be flying.

DC Rainmaker says: “In this test, I put the DJI Air 2S through multiple trials and modes over a number of days of storm conditions, from manual mode to tracking modes like POI and Quick Shots. Plus all the usual stuff like taking off and landing, and some pro tips along the way. And of course, how it handles a wee bit of water spray too!”

The trick is to switch the DJI Air 2S in sport mode to deal with the strong winds. It is impressive to see how stable the drone footage is in these windy conditions. you do see some horizon tilt as a result of the strong wind but that is easily corrected in post.

DC Rainmaker even tries the QuickShots modes in these conditions. The drone moves noticeably slower due to the strong wind, but it is still able to shoot steady aerial footage.
