Hubsan Zino Mini Pro: 4K, 249 g, 40 min flight time, obstacle avoidance
Are you looking for a camera drone that weighs less than 250 grams and still performs well in terms of image quality and flight time? Then it seems that there will be something to choose again soon. In addition to the Mini 2 from DJI and the Fimi X8 Mini from Xiaomi, Hubsan comes with the Zino Mini Pro. On paper, the drone has a lot to offer: a weight of 249 grams, 4K video with 6x digital zoom, 48-megapixel photo resolution, obstacle avoidance and AI tracking. The flight time would be no less than 40 minutes.
Hubsan Zino Mini Pro: 4K, 250 g, 40 min flight time, obstacle avoidance
Drones weighing less than 250 grams can count on great interest from the market. In Europe, the advantage of such lightweight aircraft is that no training is required in the EU to be allowed to fly them and that you can even fly above people and buildings. In the United States drones weighing less than 250 g do not need to be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) unless they are flown for commercial purposes. It is not without reason that with the Mavic Mini and later the Mini 2 – both 249 grams – DJI managed to conquer a lot of market share in this segment.
But the competition is not standing still. Xiaomi recently announced the Fimi X8 Mini drone, also weighing just under 250 grams. And now there is the announcement of Hubsan's Zino Mini Pro. The specs of this drone don't lie: 4K video, digital zoom, a flight time of no less than 40 minutes, and – for the first time in this category – obstacle detection and AI tracking.
Zino Mini Pro features and specs
Looking at the specs, Hubsan's Zino Mini Pro is superior to DJI's Mini 2 on all fronts. You could even compare it with the Mavic Air 2, but in the format of a Mini 2. Unique is that Hubsan has managed to provide the drone with extra sensors for obstacle detection and subject tracking (tracking).
These are all specs and features at a glance:
- Ultralight folding design (weight: 249 grams)
- Front / rear / under 3D space vision obstacle detection system
- ATVT 3.0 AI Tracking
- 48MP UHD 4K / 30fps camera with 1 / 1.3 inch CMOS sensor
- 3-axis gimbal
- f / 1.85 aperture
- Up to 6x digital zoom
- HDR video
- H.265 / HEVC codec with bit rate of 200 Mbps
- Different creative video modes
- Intelligent flight modes
- Syncleas 3.0 1080P / 30fps video transmission (20Mbps)
- Up to 10 km range
- Max 40 minutes flight time
DJI Mini 2 killer?
After looking at these features and specs, the question no doubt arises: is Hubsan's Zino Mini Pro a potential DJI Mini 2 killer? On paper the answer seems “yes”, but it is too early to draw any conclusions without having flown this drone. In fact: the promotional video below only shows 3D renders of the drone, not an actual flying product.
Hubsan is not a new player in the drone market. The company has been producing all kinds of multirotors and mini quadcopters aimed at hobbyists and beginners for many years, including the then-popular X4 H107. Not an unknown newcomer with a big mouth. The big question now is when the drone will appear on the market and what the asking price will be. And of course how the Zino Mini Pro then performs in practice!
