In a recent online update, aerial photographer Jarmo Pohjaniemi showed an intriguing comparison of images captured by two top-tier drones, the DJI Inspire 3 and DJI Inspire 2.
Pohjaniemi has made the files available for you to download so that you can discern the difference in resolution and dynamic range yourself.
A high-end client had asked for this comparative study, seeking a detailed examination of 6K versus 8K ProRes/Raw for wide gamut HDR output.

Pohjaniemi told his client, “In response to your request, I have prepared a set of comparison images between 8K and 6K resolutions to illustrate the variations in dynamic range, sharpness, highlight, and shadow detail.”

Importantly, Pohjaniemi emphasized that both sets of images displayed remarkable quality, a testament to the advancements in drone technology.
The 6K images, taken with a Super 35mm sensor, boasted a dynamic range of 14 stops. In contrast, the 8K images captured by the new X9 Air full-frame sensor presented a dynamic range of up to 15 stops.

Pohjaniemi made it clear that no post-processing or quality enhancement was performed on these images. He added, “To aid in the side-by-side comparison of details, I have highlighted specific areas of interest using yellow circles.”
For those interested in examining the raw prowess of these advanced drones, the high-resolution images are readily available for download.
