Educational Initiative Aims to Enhance Drone Safety Awareness During the Festive Season

As drones increasingly become popular gifts during the holiday season, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is stepping up to ensure that these high-tech toys are used responsibly and safely.

Launching the “12 Days of Drones” safety campaign, the FAA aims to educate new and seasoned drone enthusiasts on the various aspects of drone operation, emphasizing adherence to rules and regulations.

Scheduled to run on weekdays from December 7 to December 22, each day of the campaign will focus on a specific topic related to drone safety.

This initiative is a response to the growing popularity of drones and the corresponding need for increased awareness about their operation within legal and safety guidelines.

The daily themes include the Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST), drone registration and marking, remote identification, certified remote pilot information, and guidelines on where to fly drones legally.

The campaign also addresses more specialized subjects such as obtaining airspace authorizations through the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC), understanding weather conditions for safe flying, night-time operations, flying over people, and exploring drone-related careers.

The concluding days emphasize the inclusive nature of drone flying and the positive uses of drones in various fields, dubbed as “Drones for Good.”

In addition to social media posts on the FAA’s DroneZone Twitter and Facebook accounts, the FAA has released a new video that serves as a reminder of the rules and regulations governing drone piloting.

This campaign is part of the FAA’s broader effort to ensure that the integration of drones into the national airspace is done safely, catering to both recreational and commercial users.

As drones continue to captivate the imagination and find their way into many holiday gift lists, the FAA’s “12 Days of Drones” campaign emerges as a crucial educational tool.

It aims not only to inform but also to inspire responsible flying, ensuring that the skies remain safe for all.

More detailed information and resources on safely operating drones can be found on the FAA’s website, making this festive season both fun and secure for drone enthusiasts.

The campaign will run each weekday from December 7 – 22 with each day dedicated to a specific drone safety topic.
