In a significant escalation, Ukraine’s drones have targeted Moscow, leading to the suspension of more than 30 flights and causing damage to residential buildings. According to Reuters, Russian officials reported shooting down at least 15 drones around Moscow overnight, with one woman killed and several buildings set on fire.

Drone Attacks on Moscow

Russian officials confirmed that at least 15 drones were downed around Moscow. The attacks resulted in fires in multi-story residential buildings and the suspension of flights at key airports, including Domodedovo and Zhukovo. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated on Telegram that emergency crews were dispatched to several sites across the region.

Wider Impact in Russia

The drone strikes weren’t limited to Moscow. Over 60 drones were also downed in Russia’s southwestern region of Bryansk and the Lipetsk region, according to regional governors. Fortunately, no damage or casualties were reported in these areas.

Ukraine’s Growing Drone Industry

Ukraine’s domestic drone industry has been growing rapidly, and Kyiv has been stepping up drone attacks on Russian energy, military, and transport infrastructure. This latest incident highlights the increasing sophistication and reach of Ukraine’s drone capabilities.

Flight Suspensions and Airport Closures

The drone attacks led to the closure of both Domodedovo and Zhukovo airports, as reported by Russia’s RIA agency. This disruption underscores the potential impact of drone technology on critical infrastructure and transportation systems.
