Luke Maximo Bell unveils “World’s Fastest Drone V3”. A Comeback Story!

Almost one year ago today, I showed my Drone Technology students a video of a young man and his dad working together to break a world record for the fastest ground speed by an FPV drone. Their drone, Peregreen 2, clocked in at 401 km/h (249 mph), and the video was posted to YouTube on September 19, 2023.

Many of my students drew similarities between the Peregreen design and RedBull’s FPV drone, which they used to race an F1 car in 2024.

Luke VS. Samuele – Who Will Win?

As of October 22, 2025, Luke Bell released a new YouTube video. In it, Luke notes that his previous record has been broken, so he’s working to create a new version of his Peregreen 2 aircraft.

Samuele Gobbi (spelled with an extra “e”) broke Mike and Luke’s record less than six months ago with his drone, FastBoy II.

While one of Gobbi’s earlier YouTube videos shows onboard telemetry data topping 434 km/h, his latest record was set at 557.64 km/h, which Guinness officially recognized in April 2025.

Some people may point out the obvious – plenty of government-owned Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) can blow those numbers out of the water. By using only publicly available materials, parts, and software, these two are arguably the best in the game right now in terms of creativity.

Luke’s Announcement

Bell’s new video introduces his Peregreen V3 aircraft as the platform to give him the world record back. He claims this phase will involve a fresh design cycle and test plan. One of the significant changes he mentions is the addition of a 3D-printed frame. 

Most FPV drone frames are made of carbon fiber. Instead of going the traditional route, Luke describes creating an airframe through trial-and-error: starting the model with Computer Assisted Design (CAD), putting it through a wind tunnel simulator, and testing multiple 3D filament types for adequate heat resistance.

Luke and Mike put a significant amount of time into this iteration of their Peregreen project, which ultimately pays off.

Another significant improvement he mentions over the Peregreen V2 aircraft is introducing a water cooling block. 

Because of the heat generated from high RPMs over an extended period, the Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs) heated up until they caught fire mid-flight. After adding a heat sync and a water-cooling block, Luke managed to get the result he was looking for!

What’s The Next Move?

This isn’t Bell’s announcement of a new record; this video shows viewers that he and his dad are already working on breaking the most recent FPV ground speed record. We can probably expect another update video before an announcement.

However – after looking a bit further into the most current record holder, it seems like Luke and Mike Bell already reclaimed their title with the Dubai Police (UAE) on June 22nd, 2025. They set the new ground speed record for an FPV drone at 580 Km/h (360.4 mph).

With that in mind, we can probably expect an update soon. I’ll keep an eye out and report back here when a new video is posted!

I think it’s absolutely incredible to see young people interested in drone technology, especially FPV. I personally had not yet seen a water cooler installed on an FPV drone, and I’ve got to admit – I was blown away with the entire process.

The fact that they designed and printed a functioning pump and water cooling block takes a great deal of knowledge on its own, but to throw that into the quickest FPV drone on earth?
