DJI Air 4: Release Date, Leaked Specs, and US Availability Tracker

The Air 4 is the most anticipated drone DJI has not announced, and “dji air 4 release date” is a question people have been asking Google since 2024. Here is the honest state of it: no date exists, the sightings are getting steadily more official, and for American buyers the release date may matter less than an FCC list most people have never read. This page is the continuously updated record.

Status as of October 20, 2026: Unannounced. No new certification, teaser, packaging leak or retail listing has surfaced since our September update. Leaks now point to the Neo 3 as DJI’s next consumer drone, which puts a realistic Air 4 window at late 2026 at the earliest and more likely early 2027. A US launch remains blocked at the FCC.

Why does the registry sighting matter more than the leaks?

Factory photos and renders can be faked or killed; a regulatory dropdown is different. The May 2026 screenshot came from an app built around China’s CAAC flight-filing rules, showing the Air 4 as a selectable aircraft alongside every shipping Air model. It was posted by Igor Bogdanov (@Quadro_News), who accurately previewed the Air 3, Air 3S, Mini 4 Pro, Avata 360, and Osmo Pocket 4 before their launches. Models tend to appear in this kind of system when launch preparation is real, not hypothetical.

The cadence math points the same way. Air 2 arrived in April 2020, Air 2S in April 2021, Air 3 in July 2023, Air 3S in October 2024. By DJI’s own rhythm, the Air 4 is due.

What is ahead of the Air 4 in DJI’s queue?

The Neo 3. Its retail box leaked on September 15, and a production listing Bogdanov surfaced on September 21 puts it at 192.7 g. A leaked spec sheet shows a square 1/1.1-inch sensor, an unboxing video followed on October 6, and flight footage on October 7. DroneXL’s Jasper Ellens estimated the launch at about six weeks out; our Neo 3 tracker follows every leak until it lands.

The Air 4 has nothing comparable: no packaging, no creator embargo, no regional product page. DJI rarely stacks two consumer drone launches on top of each other, so with the Neo 3 taking the fall slot, early 2027 fits the Air 4 better than late 2026.

What the leaks describe

The May 2024 spec leak remains the most detailed: a 24mm wide camera and a 70mm telephoto with 3x optical zoom, both on 1/1.3-inch 48MP sensors, at f/1.7 and f/2.8. Flight time up to 46 minutes and O4 transmission out to 12.4 miles. An industry insider separately told DroneXL the sensor could grow beyond that, with a mechanical shutter under discussion, which would push the Air line toward territory the Air 2S once owned.

The 2026 reports describe a different drone. Leaks around the May flight-filing sighting point to a body under 250 grams, a 1-inch main sensor paired with a telephoto, DJI’s O4+ link and 38 to 40 minutes of flight time (our July coverage). A less-corroborated leak claims two 1-inch sensors. The Air 3S weighs 724 grams, so an Air under 250 g with a telephoto would land in the Mini class’s regulatory bracket while keeping the Air’s camera ambitions.

The February 2025 prototype photo from Jasper Ellens showed an airframe borrowing from the Mavic 4, sturdier arms than the Air 3S, two sensors in the upper housing, an updated front sensor array and a beacon light for night flying. Ellens noted the prototype may not represent the production design. Two years is a long time in DJI’s planning, so treat every number as provisional until the launch event.

How much will the DJI Air 4 cost?

No price has leaked. DJI has held the Air line at $1,099 for two generations: the Air 3 launched at $1,099 with the RC-N2 in July 2023, and the Air 3S launched at $1,099 with the RC-N3 in October 2024. Fly More Combos ran $1,349 to $1,599. For American buyers the number stays theoretical until the FCC question below is settled.

Will Americans be able to buy it?

Here the Air 4 story stops being about DJI and starts being about the FCC. On December 22, 2025, the FCC added foreign-made drones and their critical components to the Covered List, which froze new DJI equipment authorizations. The Osmo 360 II squeaked its paperwork through the day before the deadline and DJI still chose to skip the US launch. The Air 4 has no known authorization filed in time, which means a US release is blocked at the regulatory layer, not merely delayed by DJI’s tariff caution.

The one exit is a Conditional Approval: a national-security determination from the Department of War or DHS, built on a manufacturer’s supply-chain disclosure and US onshoring plan. In July the FCC removed the expiration date on those approvals. There is no public sign DJI has sought one for the Air 4.

The workaround of building a US drone around DJI parts closed on October 13, when the FCC’s logic-bearing component rule took effect. New equipment containing DJI-made flight controllers, radio modules, camera boards or gimbal controllers can no longer be authorized.
