How high can a drone fly? Two answers, and the difference between them is the whole subject. Physically: far higher than you should — consumer drones enforce their limits in software, and the airframe is rarely the constraint. Legally: 400 feet above ground level, measured from the ground directly below the aircraft, not from your launch point. On a hillside, that distinction is everything.
