Breaking news: DJI confirms launch on April 27th. Introduction DJI Mavic Air 2?

We already reported that April 27th is expected to be the launch date for the new DJI Mavic Air 2. However, today we learn that DJI is scheduling calls with various parties to inform them about “some exciting news from DJI.” The drone maker also issued an embargo until April 27th at 9 p.m. Is this the introduction of the ?

In an email to a select group of recipients, DJI writes the following:

“Hope you are staying healthy, safe and sane through everything going on. I’m reaching out with some exciting news from DJI under embargo. If interested in learning more please agree to adhering to us verbal NDA and we can set up some time this week to brief you on the announcement. Please note all information shared regarding this email is held under an embargo until April 27 at 9:00pm EST.”

When I was still writing for DroneDJ, I would get these emails as well. However, it seems that DJI has not yet included me on all the media lists as I haven’t received the above message yet (and maybe after this post, I won’t). For now, this is a good thing because it means that I’m free to write about the launch of the new 2.

It is no secret anymore that DJI has been working on the successor for the DJI Mavic Air. Not too long ago, the first photos were leaked online, and shortly thereafter, the FCC filings were made public. Because of the outbreak, there was some uncertainty about the launch date of the DJI Mavic Air 2, but five days ago, we received the first confirmation that DJI would go ahead and introduce the new drone on April 27th.

With today’s email from DJI, the drone maker does not confirm that it will indeed be the Mavic Air 2, but we are very sure that it will be. A select group of professionals, media, and press people will be briefed on the specs of this new drone in the coming week so that they can prepare their materials. I also expect that a select group of YouTubers will have received their DJI Mavic Air 2 drones as well so that they can go ahead and start producing their videos and product reviews.

Hopefully, DJI will include DroneXL to the media list soon so that we too, can start preparing for this new drone launch. The first DJI drone with , which is really exciting. If you don’t see any new articles from me anymore about this new DJI drone in the days leading up to the launch, you will know that DJI realized their mistake. 😉

Anyways, happy to share this exciting news with you. Be sure to mark your calendars for April 27th at 9 p.m. And, let us know in the comments below what new features you expect for the DJI Mavic Air 2.
