Even Casey Neistat had to wait one year before testing the Skydio 2

It seems that even Casey Neistat had to wait a very long time before he could test the Skydio 2, as he posts this video on YouTube almost exactly one year after the autonomously flying drone hit the market.

While many customers are still waiting to receive their Skydio 2 drone, Casey Neistat is having fun with one in this video.

It surprised me that Casey came out with this video almost exactly one year after the Skydio 2 was launched, as he typically has very early access to new products because of his immense following.

What is also surprising to me is that in this video Casey shows an interest in the politics surrounding Chinese made drones. At the beginning of the video, he says that the number one reason the Skydio 2 is so compelling is that it is not made by DJI.

About the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom drone Casey says:

It is a great product, but just like TikTok, there’s some geopolitical concerns that DJI is a Chinese company. Not my concerns. The U.S. government concerns.

Interesting to point out here is that the Skydio 2 drone is ‘assembled in the USA’ and still contains Chinese-made parts.

In general, Casey seems to be very impressed with the artificial intelligence and autonomous flying skills of the Skydio 2. However, he does point out that the app has some rough edges and that Skydio still has room to grow in that department.

He also points out that if you are an experienced drone operator, you will be able to get more cinematic shots with the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

When will you get your Skydio 2?

Going back to the fact that many people are still waiting for their Skydio 2 drone to arrive, the U.S.-based drone maker recently said on Twitter that Skydio will start shipping drones in December of THIS year to people who placed their orders in June or later and are in batch 5. That means a backlog of at least 6 months.

Fingers crossed that you’ll get your Skydio 2 before Christmas and that no other cool new drones appear on the market in the meantime. And that Skydio will not prioritize government orders over consumer orders.

Meanwhile, some people are still waiting on Batch 3 it seems.

Anyways, if you have 10 minutes, grab a cup of coffee and watch his video below.
