Sheriff’s Office uses police drone to locate missing person

The Stafford Sheriff’s Office received the call of a missing person around 8:30 pm, last Saturday. Quickly thereafter, deputies began searching for the subject.

The missing person’s vehicle was found at the Abel Lake boat ramp by Deputy N.R. Stachurski. Deputies started searching the area around the ramp and determined that the person must have taken a trail into the nearby woods.

Subsequently, a drone team and a bloodhound ware mobilized to start searching the area. With the help of the thermal police drone, a heat signature was quickly found by the UAS operators, Detective W.J. McWaters Jr. and Deputy R.T. Kulbeth, who then guided Sgt. G.A. Haney and Deputy B.U. Demirci to the location. The missing person was found and escorted safely out of the woods.

The photo above shows a thermal image from the drone. In the image, you can see the vehicles of the subject and deputies near the boat ramp, reports Fredricksburg Today.
