One of our readers shared the following photos and specs on Social Media. We reached out to him and asked him how he was able to buy a DJI Air 2S at the local BestBuy in Richmond, Virginia.

Here’s what he had to say:

I walked into Best Buy yesterday looking for a Mavic Air 2. I noticed they didn’t have any out where you can grab it and take it to the counter, so I asked an associate to help. He opened up a cabinet where they keep them by the display and started searching through what they had. “Mini 2, Mini 2, Mavic Air 2, Air 2S” I stopped him and said Air 2S?? I had never heard of it. He pulled it out for me to look at and said he thinks it’s new. I looked it up and couldn’t find much info. Nothing on DJI’s website, no reviews, only speculative release dates. I asked him how much it was and he scanned it with his device and said he couldn’t find anything. He looked on the website and didn’t see it there. I’m so confused at this point and then realized that this isn’t supposed to be for sale yet. I guess he never did. I followed him over the counter where he was able to ring it up. $1299 for the fly more combo. I swiped my card and left quickly. Hahaha…

The only problem is that this lucky buyer will not be able to fly the drone until the DJI Air 2S is officially released and the DJI Fly app will be updated. Bummer…

At this point, we have seen so many new products being sold by BestBuy before the official launch date, that it has become comical. A few years ago, we had our hands on the DJI Osmo Pocket days before the official release. Not too long ago we saw the same thing with a DJI Mini 2 that was accidentally sold by a BestBuy store and now we have it again with the yet-to-be-released DJI Air 2S.

You’d almost think that BestBuy and DJI have partnered and launched some new marketing stunt by ‘leaking’ product information prior to the official launch. Wow!
