Aerial Arson Wins Prestigious Award at Drone Championships

WUSA9 reports that Aerial Arson, an all-girls competitive drone team from Washington D.C., has won the prestigious Flight Operations award at the Aerial Drone Championships in West Virginia. The team, consisting of Ila Zakrajsek, Eleanor Bishop, Claire Saunders, Sofia Warfield, and Kaitlyn Saunders, took home the second highest honor at the two-day event.

The girls, who attend different schools in D.C., meet every weekend at Capitol City Robotics in Northwest to practice their drone skills. Their dedication and hard work paid off, as they impressed the judges with their exceptional performance.

In addition to their success at the championships, the team members also mentor younger students for five hours every week at Capitol City Robotics, which provides a space for students from all over D.C. to learn about robotics. This commitment to giving back to the community is truly inspiring.

The Aerial Arson team’s victory is particularly significant given that only 19% of robotics engineers are women. These young ladies are breaking barriers and serving as role models for other girls interested in pursuing careers in STEM fields.

DroneXL’s Take

The success of the Aerial Arson team is a testament to the growing popularity and importance of drones in today’s world.

The fact that an all-girl team has achieved such a remarkable feat is a powerful reminder that gender should never be a barrier to success in any field. As the drone industry continues to expand, it is crucial that we encourage and support the participation of women and girls in this exciting and dynamic field.

Congratulations to the Aerial Arson team on their well-deserved victory, and we look forward to seeing more young people, regardless of gender, making their mark in the world of drones.
