DJI Osmo 360 II vs Insta360 X6: Which 360 Camera Should You Buy?

The short answer: if you are buying in the United States, get the Insta360 X6, because it is the only one of these two cameras you can actually buy here. DJI launched the Osmo 360 II in China on August 13, 2026 and confirmed European shipping at IFA from September 15, but has announced no US price and no US date for it, twice in a row. Outside the US, this becomes a genuine contest between the two most capable 360 cameras ever made, and the Osmo 360 II is the cheaper one.

Which camera can you actually buy?

The X6 launched worldwide on August 12, 2026 at $699.99, one day before DJI’s China launch, and Insta360 sells it in the United States through normal channels with a full warranty. The Osmo 360 II has no American launch: not at the China unveiling, not at the global IFA announcement three weeks later.

The strange part is that the paperwork was done. The FCC granted the Osmo 360 II equipment authorization (2ANDR-OQ0022512) on December 21, 2025, a day before the Covered List cutoff that has frozen so much other DJI gear out. DJI could sell this camera in the US and is choosing not to, which mirrors the pattern we reported when the X6 launched: Insta360 now competes for American 360 buyers essentially unopposed. How do the sensors and video modes compare?

DJI’s headline is a single 1-inch square HDR sensor, which the company calls an industry first for a consumer 360 camera, feeding native 8K at 60 frames per second. DJI’s lab rates it at 14.5 stops of dynamic range, a full stop over the original Osmo 360. Insta360 answers with two 1/1.1-inch square Sony sensors whose combined area it calls 1-inch equivalent, about 33% more capture area than the X5, recording 8K at 50fps.

On paper DJI takes resolution and frame rate. Insta360 takes the workflow: the X6 is the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision, adds AdaptiveTone 2.0 metering that exposes each lens independently, and shoots single-lens 5K60 and 4K120 when you want it to behave like an action camera. Jake Sloan’s verdict from shooting the X6 inside an Alaskan glacier ice cave was that the color, not the resolution, is the real upgrade.

What about battery, storage, and durability?

The X6 runs longer: 140 minutes of 8K30 recording against DJI’s 100-minute rating, and it is rated to keep working at 20 below zero Celsius. The Osmo 360 II stores more: 105 GB internal against 64 GB. Both fast-charge to 80% in a near-identical 22 to 24 minutes.

Both companies have also now solved the oldest 360-camera fear in the same way: user-replaceable lenses. DJI’s are hand-swappable with a £35/€39 kit, no tools. Insta360’s Replaceable Lens 2.0 claims five times the scratch resistance of the X5’s glass at 60% lower replacement cost, and the X6 is IP68 waterproof to 20 meters bare, 60 with the dive case. The X6 also keeps Insta360’s magnetic mount system, compatible with X5, X4 Air, and Ace-series mounts.

What do they cost?

Prices as documented at launch, August and September 2026: the X6 is $699.99 in the US and £619.99 in the UK. The Osmo 360 II launched in China at ¥3,299 and ships in Europe from September 15 at €589/£509 Standard and €739/£639 Adventure Combo, which puts it £111 under the X6 in the UK. For reference, the original Osmo 360 launched in the US at $549.99 in July 2025, so if DJI ever does bring the II here, the X6’s price umbrella leaves it room.
