Ancient, deserted Irish village captured by drone

An ancient, deserted Irish village was captured by a drone at the base of Slievemore mountain near Dugort. There are approximately 100 houses spread out over three village areas called Tuar, Tuar Riabach, and Faiche.

The houses in the deserted Irish village were made of unmortared stone, i.e. no cement was holding the stones together. Every house consisted of just one room that was used as a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and oftentimes even stable.

Interestingly, many of the houses had two opposing doorways to make the daily task of milking cows easier. The cow would enter the house through one doorway, be milked, and leave through the opposing doorway.

It is unclear exactly how old the village is but according to this article, it was gradually abandoned during the 1845-49 famines when many residents were evicted for non-payment of rent during Sr Richard O’Donnell’s tenure.
