Lithuanian Drone Maker Secures Major Contract for FPV Quadcopters
Vilnius-based Granta Autonomy has landed a €1 million deal with Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence for their GA-10FPV-AI quadcopter drones. The contract’s part of a bigger €8 million initiative that’ll see thousands of UAVs sent to both Lithuanian and Ukrainian forces, according to a report from Janes.
The GA-10FPV-AI: A Versatile Quadcopter
The GA-10FPV-AI is Granta’s latest mini-UAV offering. It’s a quadcopter with some impressive specs:
- VTOL capabilities
- Can carry up to 6.6 lbs of payload
- Pre-programmed missions for autonomous operation
- Works in radio frequency and GNSS-denied environments
The system comes with all the bells and whistles – FPV goggles, controller, battery charger, antennas, and an external video display.
Massive Drone Delivery on the Horizon
This deal’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Lithuanian government’s planning to deliver over 2,300 drones to its own military and nearly 5,000 to 乌克兰. They’re not messing around – the first batch is set to hit Ukraine by the end of September, with all drones delivered by year’s end.
Gediminas Guoba, Granta’s founder and CEO, is pumped about the contract. He said, “This significant order from the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence is a major milestone for Granta Autonomy. Our drones are already proving their effectiveness on Ukrainian battlefields, and we are ramping up production to fulfil this new contract by the end of the year.”
From Military Engineers to Drone Innovators
Granta Autonomy’s not new to the game. Founded in 2015 by ex-Lithuanian military engineers, they’ve been steadily growing. They recently snagged €1 million in seed funding, which has helped them crank out cutting-edge drones, micro gimbals, and digital datalink software.
What sets them apart? Their tech’s been battle-tested on the Ukrainian front lines. That’s some serious real-world validation.
DroneXL’s Take
This contract highlights the growing importance of drones in modern warfare and defense strategies. We’ve seen a surge in 无人机技术 advancements, especially in the realm of FPV Drones for military applications. The GA-10FPV-AI’s ability to operate in challenging environments shows how far we’ve come in drone capabilities.
The rapid delivery timeline for these drones also underscores the urgent need for UAV support in conflict zones. It’s a testament to how quickly drone manufacturers can ramp up production to meet critical demands.
