Autel EVO camera drone used to smuggle contraband into prison
On January 5, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by residents near Beaver Creek Correctional Institution about an Autel EVO camera drone that was flying in the area and crashed.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had broken the law by entering the restricted area and was looking for the camera drone.
After investigating the events that transpired, law enforcement officials seized an Autel Robotics drone and several other items that are not permitted inside the correctional facility.
Fabrice Ricourt-Casseus, 24, from Ottawa, Ontario, was taken into custody by the Police and charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of Schedule 1 Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA 5(2)
- Possession of Schedule 1 Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA 5(2)
- Possession of Contraband before Visitor Control Point at a Penitentiary, CCRA 45(b)
- Possession for the Purpose of Distributing Cannabis, CA 9(2)
- Trespass by Night, CC177
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, CC354(1)(a)
On March 21, 2023, the accused will have his day in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, which is located in the province of Ontario.
