Parrot launches new Anafi AI drone with 4G connectivity

The Anafi AI, a new drone from European drone manufacturer Parrot, will be available in the second half of 2021. Notably, it's the first time 4G has been used as the primary data link between the drone and the remote, effectively eliminating the need for transmission limits. It can also make use of a Wi-Fi network connection. In addition, Parrot claims that remote pilots will be able to operate the drone beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) if and when allowed. The drone will maintain connectivity even when it is behind obstacles such as trees or buildings.

The Parrot Anafi AI with 4G connectivity features a camera with a 48MP 1/2″ Quad Bayer sensor, 24mm lens, a fixed F2.0 aperture and 73º FOV. the camera is affixed to a 6-axis (3-axis mechanical, 3-axis electronic) stabilized gimbal with a controllable gimbal tilt range (from -90° to +90°). The hybrid image stabilization ensures sharp photos even in crosswinds of up to 12.7 m/s.

According to Parrot, the camera offers the same precision as drones with a 1″ 20MP sensor, while flying 1.5 times higher. The Anafi AIincorporates boasts a powerfully stabilized 4K 60fps / HDR10 camera to capture finely detailed aerial images and smooth video footage. The camera can digitally zoom in 2x lossless at 4K UHD, and 4x at 1080p.

The Parrot Anafi AI has a max flight time of 32 minutes and a top speed of 34 mph. The drone weighs slightly less than 2 pounds and folded it measures 304 x 130 x 118 mm. It can withstand winds of up to 29 mph. The Parrot Anafi AI comes with obstacle avoidance in all directions.

The SkyController 4 has been redesigned and can fit smartphones of various sizes and can even accommodate tablets.

Parrot Anafi AI is inspired by insects

Parrot Anafi AI is fully capable of conducting autonomous photogrammetry missions. The drone can capture 48MP images at a frame rate of one per second. The photos can be directly uploaded to the software of the sister company Pix4D, potentially reducing the time it takes to complete a mapping mission. Drone flights can also be pre-programmed with Waypoints and Points of Interest.

ANAFI Ai embeds a WISeKey Secure Element which is NIST FIPS140-2 Level 3 compliant and Common Criteria EAL5+ certified. Users have full control over their data. No data is shared by default without the user's express consent. ANAFI Ai is compliant with the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and in some cases goes even further. For example, users can delete all data with 1-Click, easily maintaining control over what is stored.

Pricing and availability

The Parrot Anafi's is scheduled to be available in the fall of 2021. However, as of this release no exact date or pricing information has been made available.
