The DJI FPV drone was the aircraft that took first-person-view flying out of the solder-it-yourself world and put it in a box you could buy. Fast, open-proped and flown in goggles, it made the category mainstream.

It has since been superseded by the ducted Avata line, which went in a deliberately different direction: crash-tolerant, guarded, and far more forgiving indoors and around people. For most new FPV pilots that is the better starting point, and the Avata 360 added 360° capture on top.

The original still turns up cheaply. It has been sold refurbished at $699 and the combo discounted to $899, which is a lot of speed for the money if you already know how to fly.
