Earlier today the world’s largest drone maker updated the DJI Go 4 app. The app goes back a number of years and is used to fly older drones such as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom, the Phantom 4 Pro, and others such as the Mavic Pro, Spark, etc.

The updated version of the DJI Go 4 app is version 4.3.46. According to DJI the update adds support for iOS 15 and fixes certain issues and optimizes overall app quality.

We haven’t recently seen any updates for the DJI Go 4 app as DJI’s newer drone models are all using the DJI Fly app. The last update was 8 months ago.

During the launch of the original DJI Mavic Mini in Brooklyn in the fall of 2018, a DJI employee told me that the DJI Fly app was the way forward and that the Go 4 app was too complicated to keep working for older and newly introduced DJI drones.

Furthermore, the Go 4 app was considered not to be user-friendly, although it does offer more options to fly your drone and change settings versus the DJI Fly app.

The DJI Fly app interface was designed to be simplified and ultra-intuitive. Compatible for Mavic Mini, Mavic Air 2, DJI Mini 2, DJI FPV, DJI Air 2S, DJI Mini SE, says DJI.

Will the Mavic 3 use the DJI Go 4 app?

So, what do we make of the DJI Go 4 app update so shortly ahead of the DJI Mavic 3 launch that is scheduled for November 5th, 2021?

Is the update simply needed to keep the Go 4 app functioning well within the latest iOS and Android operating systems? Or will the DJI Mavic 3 actually use the DJI Go 4 app and is there a split between what app is used for consumer drones (DJI Fly app) versus the more professional drones that would use the Go 4 app?

Or, will we see an updated version for the DJI Fly app to unlock more features and make the app more suited for the drone pilots who will fly the Mavic 3 professionally?

Let us know in the comments below what you think of the DJI Go 4 app ahead of the Mavic 3 launch.
